The upper Avon angling was set up on March 2006 it has the Brown Trout and Grayling fishing on the upper Avon from Gilmourton bridge upstream including the Glengavel water permits for the stretch cost £6.00 for adults and £3.00 for senior citizens and children up to 16.
THE ASSOCIATION WILL BE STOCKING THE UPPER AVON WITH TROUT AT THE START OF THE 2008 SEASON WITH TROUT FROM 10 INCH PLUS. PERMITS ARE OBTAINED FROM THE ANGLERS EMPORIUM HAMILTON AND VARIOUS OTHER OUTLETS.
Sea Trout start entering the system in March with the main runs beginning late May/early June. Salmon/grilse have been caught in February but the main runs usually begin in June with large numbers of fish running the system in August/September when river levels are suitable.
The Mid Clyde Angling Association have
adopted to follow the lead of Stirling District Council and are introducing
a tagging system in the interest of salmon conservation. The picture on the right shows a 25lb salmon caught during the last week of the 2003 season. The happy angler is George Dempster from Dalkeith, Mid-Lothian. George caught his fish using a worm and barely managed to get the fish into the net when his 10lb line snapped!
This is the biggest fish recorded for the 2003 season on the Mid Clyde Angling Association's section of the River Clyde.
Permit prices are exceptionally cheap considering that every salmon and sea trout that runs up the Clyde must pass through this section of river first. An Adult Membership costs £35.00 per year and a Juvenile/Senior Citizen £15.00 per year. Day Ticket £5.00 until the last day of June, then £10.00 from July to October.
Tom Moody's (Wishaw) sea trout : 28.5 inches 13lbs and
caught Tony Madden caught 18 salmon/grilse and 19 sea trout for his season, and it
appears that from returns so far that the Clyde has had a very good run of fish
this year. This was predicted in the conservation model which was designed by
the N.V.A.A.a few years ago. Anyone interested should contact:
The Association controls 8 miles of prime double-bank Salmon and Sea Trout fishing on the River Clyde between Hamilton in South Lanarkshire and Rutherglen in Glasgow. Due to the location of the Associations waters, many a fresh fish, straight off the tide, has been caught.
Good news for salmon fly anglers restrictions at Blantyre Weir have been
relaxed and anglers will now be allowed to commence fishing for salmon
from the upstream side of the concrete feet of the bridge. Provided that
they are fishing across or downstream from this point, anyone found to
be casting upstream will be deemed to have broken association rules and
thereby forfeiting their membership making them liable to prosecution.
The Association stock annually, with over 1,000 brown trout, and it is not unusual to hook a 3lb+ brownie throughout the Associations water. In 1998 one member had a total of 47 grilse/salmon for his season, most of which he returned. Any legal method of fishing for salmon is allowed, with both spinners and flies accounting for their fare share of fish.
